What is Linux?
- Linux is not Microsoft.
- It is free (under the terms of the GNU Public License)
- It is a full UNIX clone, POSIX-compliant.
Why Linux?
- First of all, it's free.
- You can find drivers for almost all hardware for PCs ever made.
- There are lots of (commercial) applications running on it.
- It can run SCO and other UNIX/i386 binaries!!
- It is very stable [except for the hacker versions].
- You can find support all over the NET.
- You have all the sources for it. Sometimes they are very necessary.
- You can run almost all your DOS binaries.
- Windows applications work completely with WABI (it's commercial) and
partially with WINE.
Why not Linux?
- Has no "commercial support" :)
- It is "an operating system for students and hackers" :) :)
- It is not Microsoft, hence it's not "serious".
- It's a little bit hard to use by an unexperienced user [non-programmer].
- It doesn't run Windows. It doesn't run Windows 95.
[It seems that under the latest version of DOSEmu it runs Windows 3.1]
